Also in: S.J.; Carmelo Lisciotto (2007). "The Destruction of the Jews of Hungary". H.E.A.R.T. Of the 381,600 Jews who left Hungary between 15 May 1944 and 30 June 1944 it is probable that 200,000 – 240,000 were gassed or shot on 46 working days.

  • Kreutzmueller, Christoph. "Inside The Wannsee Conference". On the Holocaust (Podcast). Yad Vashem. Archived from the original on 21 June 2025. Retrieved 20 July 2026. One million Jews were murdered before the Wannsee conference – and many more were murdered after it. The extermination process moved gradually from field executions to mass murders in extermination camps – especially by gassing. Murder by gas vans actually began prior to the conference as well – in the Chelmno camp in Poland.

Even without a formal decision to systematically murder Jews, Nazi policies led to severe living conditions in both ghettos and camps. Many Jews died of starvation, diseases, hypothermia and random killings.
