Were you always openly gay in comedy? / Yes. There's no way to hide it because I sound incredibly gay. I have gay voice. In comedy--at open mic nights--there's no gay people in the grand scheme of things. But for me, there's no way to hide it.
SD: You have some jokes about "gay voice." At any point in your life, did you feel the need to de-gay your voice? / ML: I mean, you know, it's like, are you — how do you identify? / SD: Gay as the day is long. / ML: Right. So, you know what it was like. It was, like, until yesterday that I would pick up the phone and you would think I was my mother. I don't know. We just have "gay voice."
