  • This was part of a larger relocation of the cemetery (which was not completely successful, as many bodies were left in place) and which also included remains of 4,000 Confederate prisoners of war. However, all visible remnants of the cemetery were removed, excepting the Couch tomb, which is probably the oldest extant structure in the affected area of the City, everything else having been destroyed by the Great Chicago Fire.
