Gavriil founded the monastery of the Archangel Michael (later known as the Lesnovo monastery) on the slopes of Mt. Plavitsa, near the village of Lesnovo (now in the Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia). Established in the period of Byz. rule in Bulgaria, it became a center of learning and book production throughout the Middle Ages.
