The "illustrative census subdivision" field helps to illustrate the geographic placement of the census division, especially when it has a cryptic numerical name ("Division 3"). This will often, but not necessarily, be the most populous subdivision (city, town, etc). Subdivisions of a census division are listed in the "Hierarchy" tab of each census profile, for instance: [1]
