The mid-1980s saw the rise of MTV and the pop stars it helped launch, particularly the edge-pushing Madonna. The Walt Disney Company responded to the trend by marketing Minnie Mouse in a hip, stylish way, and the result was a line of products under the umbrella "Totally Minnie". For the tie-in Totally Minnie record album, Chris Montan and Bambi Moé called on both old friends and artists new to the label. Desirée Goyette, Lora Mumford, and even Ted Kryczko's wife, Debbie Gates (as the voice of Minnie), were welcomed into the studios.
Carl Stalling: Not too many. They couldn't decide whether they wanted him to speak or not. I was his voice in only one picture. I don't recall the title (probably Wild Waves (1929)) but Mickey was a lifeguard at the beach, and saved Minnie's life. She said, "My hero," and Mickey said, "Oh, shucks, that's nothin'," in a falsetto. One of the girls in the inking department did the voice for Minnie. I left not long after that, so I don't know what they did about Mickey's voice after that.
