And, for the first time, the Rhodesians were unable to recover the bodies of their fallen comrades. As a book on the Rhodesian SAS later noted: 'For the first time in the history of the war, the Rhodesians had been stopped dead in their tracks.' The RLI and the SAS were forced to make an uncharacteristic and hasty retreat.
