The narratives in Pei Ji's biographies in the Old Book of Tang and the New Book of Tang, as well as the chronology in the Zizhi Tongjian, imply but do not explicitly state that Pei died in 629 (3rd year of the Zhen'guan era). See Old Book of Tang, vol.57; New Book of Tang, vol.88; Zizhi Tongjian, vol. 193. Both the Old Book of Tang and the New Book of Tang did explicitly state that he died at the age of 59, and so if he died in 629, he would have been born in 570. The last event involving Pei which can be conclusively dated was his dismissal on 27 Feb 629 in the Julian calendar.
