On the 2008 census, it counted 24,062 people who were literate above the age of 10, resulting in a 53% literacy rate. From those 24,062, the majority, 15,006, were males, and the remaining 9,056 were females. This shows a discrepancy in literacy rates by sex. 2008 Population and Housing census, pp. A26-31 "2008 Population and Housing Census, final results"(PDF).
