A native of Castets (diocese of Aire), Giure had been educated at Saint-Sulpice in Paris, and was Superior of the Major Seminary in Aire when he was appointed by Pope Pius X on 21 February 1906, and consecrated a bishop by him at Saint Peter's Basilica on 25 February 1906. Druillet was a Jansenist. He had been Vicar General of Chartres when he was nominated by Louis XIV to be Bishop of Bayonne.
