Each year there was a competition to award the Kaiserabzeichen [de] (Emperor's Award, plus separate Königsabzeichen or King's Awards for Saxony, Württemberg and Bavaria) to the company in the Infantry, Jägers and Artillery that had achieved the highest standard of marksmanship – and the Jäger contested for it fiercely and probably with great rivalry between those who carried on the traditions of the Jäger, and those of the Schützen.
