"Practically speaking, it may be harder to organize and communicate about events," Henning-Smith says. Changing demographics can also have an enormous impact on isolation. "We're seeing an aging population in rural areas, with younger people moving out and families living farther from one another than before, making it harder to connect," Henning-Smith says.
