For many years a children's hospital known as St. Joseph's-by-the-Sea was operated by the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in a mansion formerly owned by Charles M. Schwab who was president of United States Steel Corporation and Bethlehem Steel Company. This property along the shores of Raritan Bay at Huguenot had been designed as a seaside resort... The Sisters of Charity used the estate as a convalescent home for the New York Foundling Hospital... The mansion is now used as a convent for the Sisters of Charity. Plans were announced in July 1962 for the erection of a Catholic high school for girls on the grounds.
