Just before we entered this Town on the Right Hand, we were presented with an Obelisk a flat square Pillar of Stone, which rises about 23 Foot above the Ground, and is said to be no less than 12 or 14 Foot below, and its Breadth near five; it is all one entire Stone; great Variety of Figures are carved thereon, some of which are distinct and visible, but the Injury of the Weather has obscured those towards the Upper Part; what the import or Signification of it is, I could not be informed.
