In his book Petőfi adattár,[11]József Kiss (1923-1992) dealt in detail with the ancestry of Petőfi. According to him, the results of Lajos Jakus' research prove the Slovak origin of the branches of both parents until 1685. This disproved the widespread misbelief that Petofi's father, Štefan (István) Petrovics, was automatically Serbian[12][6][13] because his name was Petrovics. Petöfi's Slovak origins are also confirmed by the fact that his parents belonged to the Lutheran Church (Serbs tend to be Orthodox).
