This village was platted in 1850 as Juliett. The nearby post office, established on January 20, 1880, and closed on November 16, 1886, was called Yocky, for a local family, and the village also was called Yocky, or Yockey, as well as Red Cross Park because Joseph Gardner donated land near here to the International Red Cross Society. The present name is for Gardner's home.
