A minority view, first advanced by the architectural historian Christian Hülsen,[39] holds that the temple known from Roman literary sources as the Temple of Apollo Palatinus was in the hitherto-unexcavated area of the Vigna Barberini [it] on the northern side of the Palatine Hill, but this suggestion is generally rejected in favour of the conventional identification.[40] In this article, references to the archaeological site and excavated remains refer to the temple near the so-called domus Augusti.
