  • Although "1966" is given by Operadis (see next note) and in the printed documentation of Melodiya's CD release (2007), it is incorrect. The well-known tenor Matvei Matveyev, who plays the 'Ardent Gambler', died 4 December 1964, and the original Melodiya release number of the LP set - D 012559-64 - reveals that the recording was made in 1963 (14 March, from <https://records.su/album/36835>). 1966 references the date of the filmed version of the opera, which uses this recording as its soundtrack.
