  • Myers, Paul (2018). The Kids in the Hall : one dumb guy. [Toronto]: House of AnansiPress. ISBN 9781487001834. OCLC 970404900. McDonald's scene required a variety of circus freaks to populate the scene, so the other cast members were encouraged to come up with freak talents of their own. In the process another hit character was born. "I wanted Mark to play another little silly freak" says McDonald, "so I asked Mark and Bruce for a freaky talent that was still very silly. At one point, fending off some taunting from the freaks, I improvised, 'Go see the Chicken Lady. She's an emotional dependent; she'll lay her eggs at the drop of a hat'" In McDonald's first draft the Chicken Lady is only referred to in passing, but Bruce McCulloch suggested that it might be funnier if they actually showed the chicken lad. McKinney agreed and volunteered to take on one of his most well-known Kids In the Hall roles.
