  • Nazario, Kyle (April 29, 2016). "See the Georgia tree that owns itself". Atlanta Journal-Constitution – via ajc.com. Roger Cauthen, Athens-Clarke County's landscape management administrator, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution the city considers the tree part of the right of way on South Finley Street and takes care of it, despite the folklore of its self-ownership. ¶ 'It's quite a story, but we treat it as kind of a public street tree,' Cauthen said. 'If there was outside damage, like from a storm, we would prune the damage. It has little to no signs of damage or stress.'
