The New Book of Tang actually indicated that "Yanbo" was the formal name while "Dalin" was the courtesy name. See New Book of Tang, vol. 91 [1]. However, that is inconsistent with his brothers, whose names were Daya (大雅) and Dayou (大有) and courtesy names were Yanhong (彥弘) and Yanjiang (彥將) respectively. Wen's tablet indicate that "Yanbo" was the formal name while "Dalin" was the courtesy name. (公太原祁人，讳彦博，字大临，...)
