The reception to the launch of the remake of XIII has been negative, and its publisher and developer have released a joint statement to apologize and promise that a fix is on the way. The XIII remake's developer PlayMagic and publisher Microids began by saying that "players expectations have not been met by the launch version and we hear loud and clear the legitimate criticism and disappointment." As it stands, XIII's remake has an "Overwhelmingly Negative" rating of 9% on Steam and a 44 on Metacritic, with many noting the numerous technical issues. Additionally, as Twitter user @tomrkobayashi notes, another issue fans have with the game are how the game "removed the comic book style [of the original] and went for something that looks like Fortnite."
The XIII Remake launched last month, with both critical and fan feedback being mostly negative. Its reception was so bad that the developer even issued an apology for the game's technical issues. And now, Metacritic has released its list for the Worst Videogames of 2020, with the number two spot being taken by XIII Remake on Xbox One. It's only beaten by Tiny Racer, which is a Nintendo Switch console exclusive. [...]Metacritic's blurb for XIII's position reads: "A remake of Ubisoft's 2003 first-person shooter (itself an adaptation of the Belgian graphic novel series), this buggy Microids release made numerous (often drastic) changes to the original's gameplay and look, and fans weren't happy, forcing the developer to issue a formal apology."
The remake released in 2020 was published by Microids and developed by PlayMagic, and the reception was so bad that both companies made an official apology after release. This do-over is developed by a new studio, Tower Five. Whether it can reverse the "overwhelmingly negative" Steam reviews remains to be seen.
