Both concessions give the exclusive right of railway construction within 20 miles on each side of the line and the preferential right to construct other railways. Materials for the railway and fuel for its operation are admitted free of duty, and the property and operation of the railway will be free of all internal taxes. The railway is given the right to use the rivers of the country without charge for generating hydro-electric power, and may utilize or sell the current for any purpose it sees fit […] In Salvador the railway becomes the property of the Government at the end of 99 years, or can be purchased by the Government at the end of 70 years».
