  • http://www.operas.com.ar/Music-Encyclopedia/92719/Zachow-%5BZachau%5D,-Friedrich-Wilhelm.htm In Das Kantatenwerk, Vol. 4 by Harnoncourt and Leonhardt the following text can be read: "Christen, ätzet diesen Tag (BWV 63) is from a textual point of view a Christmas cantata, but the purpose for which Bach composed the work is uncertain. In view of the fact that the text is probably written by the Halle theologian J.M. Heineccius, it seems appropriate to consider the cantata an audition piece for Bach's application for the post of organist at the Church of Our Lady at Halle in 1715 or to connect it with Bach's inspection of the organ at the same church in 1716." (Ludwig Finscher 1976).
