Lori, a member of the Southwestern branch of the Iranic language family, is a third major language group in Ilam. Along with a large number of Northern Lori (Lorestāni)-speaking villages in the south, a group of linguistically distinctive Hinimini (Hendemini) Lori villages are found along the north-east edge of the province. In the centre of the province, there is also a group of Shuhāni villages associated with the larger Lori ethnic group; however, their language is quite different from other Lori varieties, and it has yet to be properly classified based on linguistic grounds.
