Une ordonnance du avait créé à Alger un tribunal supérieur (nommé « tribunal supérieur d'Alger ») qu'une ordonnance du avait érigé en cour d'appel (nommée « cour royale d'Alger »)(1). La cour d'appel d'Alger, ainsi nommée sous IIe République, a été nommée « cour impériale d'Alger » sous le IId Empire avant d'être renommée « cour d'appel d'Alger » sous la IIIe République. La cour d'appel d'Alger est restée l'unique cour d'appel en Algérie jusqu'au (1), date de l'entrée en vigueur de la loi no 55-1083 du (2) et de son décret d'application no 56-897 du (3), qui ont créé deux autres cours d'appel, à Oran et à Constantine.
