Richard Misek, de son côté, relève que la référence aux grands peintres, notamment Rembrandt, est censée conforter des thèses contradictoires en matière de couleur[102], par exemple chez Natalie Kalmus qui invoque Rembrandt pour justifier une « loi de l'emphase » selon laquelle la couleur dans un film ne doit pas attirer l'attention sur elle-même mais sur un élément important pour la narration[103].
