Freud himself wrote of "das Es", "das Ich", and "das Über-Ich" — in other words, "the It", "the I", and the "Over-I". The It or Id describes basic, primal, human drives, sex, anger, hunger, pleasure. It is focused on selfishness and instant self-gratification, the most primitive human appetites. » : c'est-à-dire, en substance, que le terme Id a donc été mal traduit par James Strachey, le traducteur de Freud en anglais. En allemand, Freud utilise le terme das Es, rendu en français par le Ça.
