[...] L'excès de graisse abdominale induit un excès d'acides gras libres dans la veine porte, augmentant l'accumulation de lipides dans le foie et dans les cellules musculaires. Les cellules graisseuses peuvent également s'accumuler dans les muscles. Une insulino-résistance, se développe, avec une hyperinsulinémie. Le métabolisme du glucose est perturbé et une dyslipidémie et une HTA peuvent se développer. L'uricémie est fréquemment élevée (augmentant le risque de goutte) et un état préthrombotique se développe (avec augmentation du fibrinogène et de l'inhibiteur I de l'activateur du plasminogène) et un état inflammatoire se développe. »
