Significantly enough, the realm was designated as a conquered area (vijita) and a royal domain (rajavishaya) in Asoka's records, which also carried two other labels. These are Jambudvipa (usually coterminous with the subcontinent in the later Puranic texts) and Pathavi/Prithvi (literally "the Earth") both terms actually stood for the Maurya Empire.
