The Tahonaenrat surrendered enmass and were incorporated into the Seneca, but large groups of Neutrals and Huron fled south to the Erie. However, having great respect for the Erie as warriors, they first took the precaution of arranging a peace with the French. When the Huron were overrun in 1649, the French fur trade empire collapsed.
