This is in all likelihood why its Arab name is Qasr el Yahud [The castle of the Jews] (Il santo monastero di San Giovanni Battista sulle rive del fiume Giordano/Qasr-el-Yahud […] I muri perimetrali, specificamente la loro porzione più elevata, terminano con merlature, che conferiscono al monumento la forma di un castello medievale.
