  • 今日、3棟一体の施設はランドスケープにおいて、広島市を東西に貫く平和大通りと直交する 原爆ドーム - 原爆死没者慰霊碑 - 広島平和記念資料館本館 の南北軸線を対称軸にした一見シンメトリーな配置に見えるが、改装前に西ウィングに建てられていた公会堂はル・コルビュジエのソビエト・パレス計画案 [1] を模して、台形状のボリュームを持った建物であった。東ウィングの広島平和会館本館（現・広島平和記念資料館東館）の東西方向の柱間が7間であるのに対して、西ウィングの現・広島国際会議場の東西方向の柱間が9間であることに、その名残をとどめる。ただし、台形状のボリュームの公会堂と相互貫入する形で併設されていた「新広島ホテル」の部分は、右ウィングと相同の形状の東西南北7間の柱間を持っていた。[2] を参照のこと。
