『スムマ』よりも先に脱稿していた簿記論としてベネデット・コトルリの『商業と完全な商人（英語版）』があるが、その出版は『スムマ』よりも後の1573年だった^[4]。コトルリは、初めて複式簿記 (dupple partite) という言葉を使ったことでも知られる^[5]。
