説話に拠れば「ハンロン老人」は寺小屋を営み、かのエドマンド・バークも教えたと主張する。バークが幼年期をすごしたのはキラバレン（英語版）であるから、その界隈とすれば、バリーギブリンまでの残りの帰途は10km強ほどか。
説話では山脈以外に具体的な地名がないが、史料によれば、1643年に当代の白騎士（おそらく第9代白騎士、ジョン・フィッツギボン）は、ギャルティー山脈の南側のキルベエニー（英語版）城に居を構えたとある^[36]。第10代白騎士、ジョン・オゲ・フィッツギボンは、またの名をコーク県ミッチェルズタウン（英語版）の白騎士ジョンと称した^[37]。
、デュラハンが人間の背骨の鞭をふるうという設定は、例えばクレイグ・ショー・ガードナー（英語版）による『The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns』ドラマ小説化作品『レプラカーン』（1999年）にみられる^[48]。
