fylgjaの語釈は英語で"afterbirth, caul"とあるが、このうち「後産」を意味する"afterbirth"は、"排出される胎盤や胎膜"とも包括的で、特に"caul"（排出された羊膜）のみを指すこともあるということだ。
ムンダル論によれば、こうした動物もやはり雌である^[16]。下掲の『イーサフィヨルド人ハーヴァルズのサガ（英語版）』では、ウィザード（男魔術師）が予兆夢の中では雌狐の姿をとっている。
