Among an estimated 130,000 prisoners who entered Majdanek, 80,000 people were killed according to the most recent research. Among them, the greatest number of those who died or were murdered were Jews (about 60,000), followed by Poles, Belarusians, Ukrainians and Russians. In order to remove the traces of the crimes, the corpses of those who died and the murdered were burnt on pyres or in the crematorium.

The Polish-Soviet Extraordinary Commission has ascertained that during the 4 years' existence of the extermination camp at Maidanek the Hitlerite hangmen, following the direct order of their criminal government, exterminated by mass shooting and mass killing in gas chambers approximately 1.5 million persons.
