「1948年末、釈放された児玉は中央情報局（CIA）に協力するようになった」と後にアメリカでも報道された^[要出典]という。しかし、1953年に記録され2005年に機密解除されたCIA文書で、児玉は次のように評されている。
諜報工作員としての価値は事実上ゼロ。職業的な嘘つき、ギャング、ペテン師、根っからの泥棒。……。実際の諜報工作技能は皆無であり、金儲け以外に関心がない。
