  • この名はまだ一般的ではなく、植物命名規約に基づく「藍藻綱 (Cyanophyceae)」が暫定的に用いられることがある[8]
  • アナベナ属 (Anabaena) とされていた藍藻のうち、プランクトンとしてふつうに見られる種の多くは、ドリコスペルマム属に移されている[122]
  • ただし2019年現在、原核生物の分類体系では、藍藻を分類する一般的な綱レベルの分類群名がないため、藍藻綱 (Cyanophyceae) が暫定的に用いられることがある[8]
  • 一般的に「スピルリナ」とよばれる藍藻は Arthrospira に属する[193] (この分類体系ではユレモ目)。
