Par. 18: "... The westernmost settlement in the Israel-occupied Sinai peninsula lies beside a salt-water lagoon on the Mediterranean coast, less than fifty miles from the Suez Canal. ... It is a paramilitary fishing kibbutz, or communal settlement, established by the Nahal, a branch of the Israel Army that combines fighting and farming. Its members are boys and girls in their late teens who volunteer for the often dangerous job of settling Israel's border areas."
