Volgens de Engelse Wikipedia is het William Sherard die Catesby voordroeg, in de Dictionary of National Biography vol. 9 (1887): 281 staat dat hij "with some assistence from Sloane" weer wegging. Pikant daarbij is dat Sherard en Sloane vanaf eind 1721 met elkaar overhoop lagen, uitgerekend over het gebruik van botanische specimens in de collectie van Sloane, zie B.D. Jackson, A sketch of the life of William Sherard in Journal of Botany, British and Foreign vol. 12 (1874): 134. Volgens de Introduction to the Natural History kreeg hij eerst wetenschappelijke steun van Sherard en vervolgens politieke en financiële steun van Sloane.
