Bakoenin beschreef in zijn Revolutionaire Catechismus: “The land, and all natural resources, are the common property of everyone, but will be used only by those who cultivate it by their own labor. (…) For association marvelously multiplies the productive capacity of each worker; hence, a cooperating member of a productive association will earn much more in much less time.” In het programma van Bakoenin ten tijde van de Lyonse Commune staat: “Het ruilverkeer zal geheel en al vrij zijn: intussen zullen in alle steden magazijnen worden opgericht en de voortbrengers zullen daar hun producten kunnen ruilen tegen een vergoeding, (…) Indien arbeiders of arbeidersverenigingen door hun werken er toe geraken om kapitalen voor zich voort te brengen, kunnen zij in volle vrijheid daarvan genieten”. De anarchocommunistPeter Kropotkin schreef in Anarchism: “Bakunin (…) express a state of things in which all necessaries for production are owned in common by the labour groups and the free communes, while the ways of retribution of labour, communist or otherwise, would be settled by each group for itself.”
