Each train has two traction units with group power supply of two or four traction motors. A four-car train is equipped with six traction motors, and a six-car train with eight. Fig. 2 shows the braking and traction characteristics of a six-car train. Traction motors of the 1TB1724-0GB02 type with a maximum power of 250 kW have water cooling and are based on the well-known motors installed on DB electric trains of the 424 and 426 series. The motor with a support-axle suspension is connected by means of a toothed clutch to a reducer with a gear ratio of 5.507. With a wheel diameter corresponding to the worn condition and a maximum train speed of 160 km/h, the motor rotation frequency is 6000 rpm."
