Szerokość ta została wybrana przez Dicksona we współpracy z Eastmanem jako niemetryczna wartość standardowa 1 i 3/8 cala. Wzmianka o tym znajduje się w artykule autorstwa Dicksona w 1933 SMPTE Journal. „Half Frame Cameras”.
