Vendar pa je v Taxcu najden krstni list z dne 30. decembra 1572, ki pripada dečku Juanu, sinu Pedra Ruiza de Alarcona in Leonor de Mendoza, pesnikova starša. Kljub izjavam Alarcóna večina kritikov meni, da je Taxco njegov rojstni kraj.. Vendar pa lahko pisanja teologov gredo le toliko daleč, da pojasnijo razvoj konfesionalne zavesti in oblikovanje verske identitete. Luteranska navezanost na verske podobe ni bila posledica le Luthrove previdne odobritve njihove uporabe, temveč tudi posebnega verskega in političnega konteksta, v katerem se je odvijala njegova reformacija. Po reformatorjevi smrti leta 1546 je bilo slikovno vprašanje ponovno ostro izpodbijano. Ko pa se je kalvinizem s svojimi ikonoklastičnimi težnjami širil, so se nemški luterani odzvali s potrditvijo svoje zavezanosti pravilni uporabi verskih podob. Leta 1615 so berlinski luteranski državljani celo ušli, ko so njihovi kalvinistični vladarji odstranili slike iz mestne stolnice.
