Bronastodobne vasi in urbane družbe v dolini Inda so nekakšna anomalija, saj so arheologi našli malo znakov lokalne obrambe in regionalnega bojevanja. Zdi se, da so obilne monsunske padavine od zgodnjega do srednjega holocena ustvarile pogoje za in da so bile konkurenčne energije usmerjene v trgovino in ne v konflikte. Znanstveniki že dolgo trdijo, da je to deževje oblikovalo izvore urbanih harapskih družb, ki so nastale iz neolitskih vasi okoli leta 2600 pr. n. št v 3. tisočletju, ravno na točki, ko so se harapska mesta začela razvijati. Tako se zdi, da je ta "prva urbanizacija" na jugu Azija je bila prvi odziv ljudstev v dolini Inda na začetek pozno holocenske aridifikacije. Ta mesta so se ohranila 300 do 400 let in nato postopoma opustila, ko so se Harapska ljudstva preselila v razpršene vasi na vzhodnem območju svojih ozemelj, v Pandžab. in dolina Gangesa...' 17 (opomba):
