In the Deshnok temple of Karniji (the deified Charan woman who is the tutelary goddess of the Rajahs of Bikaner), there is a cenotaph containing the image of two women: these are Mankumari, Karni's granddaughter, and her friend Sakhi, a woman of the Carpenter (Khati) caste who burned herself along with Mankumari when the latter, upon receiving news of her husband's death, declared herself a sati.
The temple is believed to have been built during the reign of Maharana Karan Singh, 1621–1628. However, it remained in ruins for years, until 1994 when it was restored by Shree Karni Mata Trust. Owing to its location on a hill, the views are simply stunning from the top, especially during sunset. You can reach the temple by ropeway.
Shri Karni Mata is the incarnation of Devi Hinglaj or Devi Durga(The Goddess of Power and Victory. Goddess Durga is synonymous with Shakti, the cosmic power that wages an eternal war against the evil and also the energy of life for everyone).
