Although excavation at Helwan began with Zaki Youssef Saad (1901—1982), who was funded by King Faruk, much of the material discovered after the first five years of excavation remains poorly published. There is some late Predynastic material but the vast majority of tombs and finds are Early Dynastic. Work continues, some of it by teams from Macquarie University, Sydney.
