"Piscataway was incorporated in 1798, so named from some of the first settlers who came from Piscataqua, in Maine, and upon their arrival they called the place New Piscataqua. New Market, formerly Quibbletown, is a thriving post town. New Brooklyn, Samptown, New Durham and Raritan Landing, are small villages in the township.
