Masahiro Sakurai, president of Sora and chief creative force behind Smash Bros, has Tweeted that he won’t start working on the next installment of the Smash Bros franchise until he has finished working on Kid Icarus Uprising.“I’m currently concentrating on one title, Kid Icarus. Until this wraps up, Smash Bros. will not progress. Of course, characters have not been decided at all.”
During this year’s E3 Masahiro Sakurai said that the story mode found in the next Super Smash wouldn’t be the Subspace Emissary storyline found in Brawl, though there would be a single-player campaign. Now, in his bi-weekly column in Famitsu magazine, he’s thoroughly ruled out the inclusion of a story mode due to particular cutscenes being uploaded onto the internet. In his own words, he said:“Unfortunately, the movie scenes we worked hard to create were uploaded onto the internet. You can only truly wow a player the first time he sees [a cutscene]. I felt if players saw the cutscenes outside of the game, they would no longer serve as rewards for playing the game, so I’ve decided against having them.”
When asked if all the characters from previous Smash Bros. games would return, Sakurai said:"I can answer that: no. We don't have the time to fully recreate every single character who's been in Smash Bros at this point,""Adding new characters is not a simple addition - it's really multiplication. The amount of work, adding a character is multiplied and becomes bigger and bigger as you go. We can't because of the amount of work it takes. However, I do believe I understand that each character has its own set of fans out there who really like that character.
Speaking with Polygon, Sakurai said: "The amount of stress I feel, it's almost to the brink of death because it's not just a matter of me personally thinking this character or that character is going to be in the game; it's that we also have the game balance, animation, graphics and sound to think about in order to make that character fully fleshed out in that universe. I have to think about all of that when I go through this decision-making process."
Satoru Iwata announced that the first Smash Bros Wii U screenshots would be revealed at E3 in June this year but now Sakurai, the creator of the Nintendo's fighting series, has tweeted that he wants to showcase the handheld version of the game as well.
